Through decades of design work, I have developed a deep working knowledge in the majority of the graphical standards used to depict organizational structures.
However, I have discovered limitations in many of the notational approaches - particular in the area of organizational workflows.
The workflow model is one of the most important design models (artifacts) associated with organizational design.
In response, I created the Integrated Workflow Modeling Notation (I-WFMN) as a complimentry modeling approach.

I-WFMN Workflow Model
The depicted graphical model is the "base" for all of the workflow models I create. Each workflow model contains the same "elements":
-
A business event that "triggers" a business activity
-
Notification (s) that are initiated to individual postions or groups informing them that a business activity needs to be addressed
-
Information products (reports, records, schematics, maps, etc.) that support the workflow (business) activity
-
Information systems (computing technologies) utilized in support of the business activity)
-
Governance mechanisms in the form of business policies, business riles, performance metrics and industry regulations that impact the business activity
