TECHNOLOGY STRUCTURES

elements of digital technologies

The word "technology" has its foundation in the Grecian word "tekhnologia" that essentially translates to the systemic treatment of art, craft and logic.

However, in today's modern context, technology tends to engender ideas of scientific treatment - so much so that many think of technology as a proxy for "computers".

Through my decades of design work it has become obvious that the misunderstanding of what technology truly is has led to deeply misguided utilizations of technological approaches - particularly digital products .

I reduce the impact of misaligned and misguided technology use in my work by categorizing technology in two broad groups - digital technology structures and industrial technology structures.

The majority will recognize digital technology structures as the end use "computer" or "smart phone" they have in front of them and the "software apps" they use to gather and share information with.

From an organizational design perspective, digital technology structures are far broader and incorporate a multitude of concepts and components - as reflected in the "elements of digital technologies" ontological model depicted here.

My work within digital technologies is enhanced by my working knowledge in software development and systems administration toolsets utilized within computing environments.

Digital technology structures inform me of the relationships between the numerous "enabling components" that make up the information systems modern organizations use.

With this insight I can achieve more optimal business environments.

I have also documented a technique I utilize to develop digital technology structures in the form of the following guide book:
